Bowling News
Earlier in the week I reported on Pudsey and Thongsbridge being the two Yorkshire teams that qualified for the later stages of the BCGBA World Club Championship. At that time a third Yorkshire side had also reached the Last 64 but as they had only qualified the weekend before were not named in the official documentation. Dave Parkin brought to my attention the fact that Leeds-based team Crossgates had also made the Last 64 and I am happy to add them to this posting.
Crossgates BC won all eight legs of their opening match against Windermere BC to run out 168-104 winners. Then beat South Ramsey 147-130 to join Thongsbridge in the last 16 who take to the green again for Finals Day on Sunday.
Thongsbridge won their two matches last Sunday to progress to Finals Day which will be held next Sunday at Spen Victoria. They beat Shropshire team Sir John Bayley 144-124 in the opening round and then won all eight games to record a 168-94 win over Haunchwood BC to secure their passage to Finals Day. The start time is 11.00am on both greens.
Yorkshire Cup winners Pudsey BC set off with a narrow 147-140 win over South Yorkshire team Meersbrook BC before losing out to Shropshire side Castlefields 123-149 to go out of the competition.
The draw for the Grand Final is:
Greville Arms vs Hoghton
Castle Sports vs Esclusham
Crossgates BC vs Castlefields
George & Dragon vs Thongsbridge BC
