Review of the matches played in the 10-Man League Divisions 3,4&5 on Tuesday 27 August
The top versus bottom fixtures in Divisions 3 and 4 produced the expected results as Elland WMC and Marsh United B won their matches convincingly to extend their leads as their major rivals failed to keep up the pace. In Division 1 Elland WMC made 8 points against Skel Windmill with their main rivals from Denby Dale collecting 6 points from their home match with Hemplow A and the gap at the top is now 6 points.
Thorpe Green were the only bottom four team to win their match this week when they racked up their 4th successive win when beating Outlane 6-3 which means the two teams are now level on 63 points sharing the second relegation place. Springwood took 4 points off Holmfirth A and it could have been more as the 116-117 aggregate score indicates and they remain in the range of the hill-top neighbours from Outland and Thorpe Green.
Similar story in Division 4 where the leaders Marsh United B took 6 points from their trip to play Lindley Lib B and as their prime rival for the title, Lockwood Con B, lost 3-6 at Thongsbridge B it was a good day for the leaders. The Lockwood Con team are now looking over their shoulders at the prowling pack of predators rather than upwards as had previously been the case. That pack is headed by Kirkheaton C&BC A and Milnsbridge B although neither bothered the headline writer this week with a modest 5-4 home win for the Cricket Club over Marsh Lib put them one point off the second promotion place. Then Milnsbridge B lost 3-6 at the Rugby Club to delay any bid to feature more prominently in the race for promotion.
Meltham B missed an opportunity to narrow the gap to safety when going down to their nearest rivals Brockholes B when losing out to the Badgers 3-6 and the gap widened to 12 points with 5 matches to be played.
In Division 5 Dalton hit a rare 9-0 away win at Almondbury BC B but that still only managed to reduce the gap to second place by one point as David Brown Sports collected 8 points from their home match with Holmfirth B. A 9-0 win is welcome at any time but to win away from home is even rarer and a notable achievement for any team. The Almondbury team are having a disappointing season after relegation from Division 4 last year has been followed by a struggle at the foot of the table this year. The whitewash scoreline was totally unexpected as they had won 3 of their previous 4 matches and seemed about to mount a resolute rearguard action which has been firmly halted
Netherton Con B continue their journey to promotion and probably the title with a 7-2 away win at Kirkheaton Con B and there was dominant 8-1 home wins for Primrose Hill Lib, making it 3 wins from their last 3, and Broad Oak B over New Mill B and Greenhead Park respectively.
