Aggregate totals are key for wins

Veterans League

Three home wins and three away wins on the opening day of the Division 1 season but a different story in Division 2 where the hosts came out on top by 4-2.

A mixed bag of results on the opening day of the 10-Man League Division 1 season where two aggregate scores signified their importance by deciding two away wins. A rare 123-123 drawn aggregate score in a match where the game score was 5-2 was some consolation to Waterloo at home as they went down 3-6 to the visitors from Clayton West. The aggregate totals were also key in the Lindley Lib A v Kirkheaton Con A match with the visitors turning around a 3-4 deficit game score into a 5-4 win after nicking the aggregate bonus points after a 115-113 better total.

There was also a big away win for Golcar Lib A and it was almost a clean sweep of the points as only a 20-21 match score stopped the visitors thrashing their Cowcliffe hosts and having to settle for a 8-1 away win. No such bother for Longwood as they overwhelmed Rastrick with a whitewash 9-0 home win to determine the top and bottom places in the first league table of the season.

The 2024 Champions, Lowerhouses, began their defence of the title with a comfortable 7-2 home win over promoted Meltham A whilst much-fancied Marsh United A were pushed all the way before beating Lockwood Con A 6-3.

Elland C&BC head the first published Division 2 table for the 2025 season after an 8-1 away win at Lindley BC A who may be suffering from a 2nd Division 1 relegation in three seasons hangover. Whatever it was the outcome is not a good start for a yo-yo team like Lindley BC A.

New Mill A and Shepley both had good solid 7-2 home wins over Milnsbridge A and Broad Oak A respectively and they just hold off the other Elland team from the WMC who also had a good start to the season with a 6-3 away win at Thongsbridge A. Golcar Lib B defied the doom-mongers (including me) who see them as relegation certainties but not on the opening day performance when they had a 6-3 home win over Netherton Con A who were playing in Division 1 last season.

Denby Dale also ensured their presence in Division 2 was noted after a 5-4 home win over Almondbury BC A with the 125-133 aggregate score counting against the home team.
