A review of Thursday's results from Divisions 6&7 at Netherton Con & RUFC
Division 6 The first title winners of the 2024-25 season are Almondbury BC B who take the Division 6 title after collecting 6 points from their fixture with Springwood C on Thursday. Those points take their season-long total to 84 points which is 18 ahead of second-placed Mirfield A with only two matches left to play. If Mirfield A take 7 more points from their final two fixtures then they will be joining the Champions in Division 5 next season. They stuttered a little this week losing 4 points to bottom-of-the-table New Mill C as the teams shared the points with the 53-52 aggregate difference being key to New Mill sharing the points but still searching for a first win of the season.
A 6-2 win for Netherton Con B over Huddersfield Recreation Club B resulted in the home hosts going level on points with the Recreation Club but retaining the second relegation place for now. With the bottom four teams playing each other next Thursday we can expect the relegation issues to be progressed accordingly.
Brockholes B beat Outlane 6-2 but are now dependent on second-placed Mirfield A slipping up to open the promotion door a little wider. That could happen next week when the Mirfield side take on the Champions but the last match of the season will see Brockholes B meeting Almondbury BC B to give them one last chance of going up.
Division 7
A 4-4 draw with Kirkheaton Con B saw the Division leaders, Cowcliffe B, take their season total to 70 points which is 22 ahead of the chasing pack with 4 matches still to be played. Hanging Heaton are emerging as the strongest threat in the run-in after an 8-0 win over Huddersfield RUFC saw them take second place from their opponents. The fact that the Rugby Club have now lost their last 5 fixtures but remain in contention for promotion is testimony to their opening 5-match winning sequence to start the season.
Marsh Lib are putting an unbeaten run together stretching to four matches to put a marker down as to their potential in the final run into the end of the season. The latest victory being over Meltham B by 6-2. The bottom two teams, Broad Oak A and Lockwood Con B, met each other on Thursday with Broad Oak recording their second win of the season but both teams look doomed to relegation.
With rearranged fixtures littering the programme we note that last week's fixtures are reversed next Thursday so a repeat run of results is possible, or may be not.
