Veterans League
Preview of the Veterans 6-Man League fixture programme for Monday 12 August
The bottom four teams in Division 1 all have away matches to contest this Monday which isn't good news for Paddock I&C as they haven't had an away win all season. Add to that they are at Slaithwaite who have won their last 4 matches and things do not look good as they are in the 2nd relegation place at present.
Below them sit Lockwood Con who have won 3 of their last 4 fixtures but have to travel to play Netherton Con this Monday. Crosland Moor sit just above the drop zone and are at mid-table Golcar C&BC with Lindley Lib A and Brockholes A out of their reach at present.
Leaders Marsh United A are the only team in the top half of the table with an away fixture this week so the pressure is certainly on them although they already have a minimum of an 8 points lead over their rivals.
There is an interesting clash in Division 2 as the teams in 3rd and 4th positions go up against each other and as there is a single point between them the winner could be joining the promotion chase whilst the loser could be signing up for oblivion! The two teams involved being Marsh Lib A and Holmfirth A who have the better current run of 6 straight wins but the Marsh team has home advantage. Tricky times.
Clayton West remain clear at the top with still just one defeat blackmark on their playing record. They will expect a big win when they go to bottom-of-the-table Elland C&BC this week. Bradley & Colne could be vulnerable in 2nd place with an away match at Lindley Lib B. New Mill are on a good run of form having won their last 5 fixtures and you can add the JFT champions win to that. They go to Greenhead Park this week and will hope to keep their winning run going.
Greenhead Park A are one of 3 teams above the relegation places with only 1 point between them. Those 3 teams all have away matches this week with the key one being 12th placed Hemplow visiting 13th placed Milnsbridge B. Linthwaite Hall are at Golcar Lib and neither are in their best form of the season.
The Division 3 leaders, Brockholes B, have to wait until Friday for their match this week and then they have an 'away' match at their clubmates in Brockholes C. They are secure in the knowledge that they cannot be overtaken this week although Denby Dale will be aiming to close the current 13-point gap when they entertain Meltham who have won 7 of their last 8 fixtures to move into mid-table. The bottom two teams face each other as the B teams from Marsh United and Shepley meet.
