Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures played on Tuesday 2 July
There were four away team winners in Division 1 last Tuesday including the top three teams in the table. It is unusual for the balance to go the way of visiting teams in the top division and that wasn't the only surprise element about the day's fixtures.
There was a comfortable 7-2 away win for Lowerhouses to retain their lead at the top assisted by Lindley BC A only fielding 9 bowlers. Second-placed Marsh United A had a comfortable 8-1 away success at Clayton West and that was one of three 8-1 scorelines the other two both going to the visiting teams.
Kirkheaton Con A saw their unbeaten home record obliterated in a 1-8 defeat to Waterloo whilst Golcar Lib A suffered a similar fate at home to lowly Rastrick. That outcome means that Rastrick have now won 3 of their 4 victories away from home this season and the latest one was sufficient to lift them out of the relegation places and dump Clayton West in the drop zone. Netherton Con A remain in the bottom spot after a 3-6 away loss at Lockwood Con A.
A tight game at Cowcliffe (131-127) saw the home side see off Longwood 5-4 and move a point behind their opponents and into fifth place in the table.
The top five teams in Division 2 all won their Tuesday matches to maintain the same pecking order with Meltham making it 6 wins on the bounce to protect their 13-points lead at the top of the table. Milnsbridge A were the only one of the top quintet playing away and they recorded a highly satisfactory 7-2 win at New Mill A.
Things don't get any easier for the New Mill boys after losing to the top two teams in the previous two matches to see them drop down the table. They were overtaken by Shepley who had a good 6-3 away win at Almondbury Lib who are threatened with an immediate return to Division 3 on present form. They could be accompanied by Broad Oak A who lost 3-6 at Elland C&BC and are on a run of 6 straight defeats.
