BCGBA club insurance changes

Bowling News

Most clubs use the BCGBA deal to insure their clubs for protection against public liability. That has been previously been made available to clubs for around £50. The insurance company historically involved has been Endsleigh but that changed last year when Howdens took them over. That policy in its current form is no longer available to clubs. The present policy provides cover up until 1 January 2025.

All clubs have to have public liability cover to play in leagues associated with the BCGBA.

Clubs that play in Winter Leagues need to have new arrangements in place for 1 January.

The BCGBA have been making alternative arrangements which are explained in this message from them.

***Club and Bowler Insurance Cover***

Over the last week, we have been notified of necessary changes to the insurance policies that have been available through one of our key partners, Howdens (formally Endsleigh).

Following recent regulator rule changes, the existing policy is unable to be offered in its current format for 2025, but we've been working hard to secure an even better package for crown green bowls!!!

The existing cover offers £5m of protection for Clubs for £53.40. On top of this, Clubs have the option of extending their policy to cover their Officers and Directors, for an extra premium of £21.77. Personal Accident cover is also available, for bowlers under the age of 85, for £1.09 per bowler, and this is also added by some Clubs.

The new policy would include ALL of these options for only £55 per Club.....and the policy cover would also increase to £10m for Public Liability

The administration of the policy would have to change, due to the regulation changes, in that it cannot be done through the portal we had any more, and the package cannot be amended (everything is included). The package will have to be administered by BCGBA, and Counties, with payments made as usual at the start of the cover (1st January).

More details will come out over the next couple of weeks, but we hope you agree that this new package offers excellent value to our Clubs.

***As with all insurance, we cannot advise you on this policy - all decisions regarding this must be made by yourselves***

COMMENT

I hope that any new insurance arrangements ensure that the clubs and leagues that have paid their premium receive a copy of the policy and the list of cover arrangements. Past experience leads me to believe that this has never been made available as part of the renewal process and details of how to claim have never been made available either.
