BCGBA Ladies Champion-of-Champions update

Bowling News

Dave Parkin provides his monthly update on the BCGBA Mens and Ladies Champion-of-Champions qualifiers and it is the ladies' first with the full list of qualifiers to date at the foot of this posting.

June saw 8 qualifiers for the BCGBA LADIES CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS event which will be held at OWLEY WOOD on Sunday September 29th.

Three of those were won by players already qualified so we now know 21/32 of the qualifiers.

CHERYL CASWELL added her SHROPSHIRE MERIT title to the SPRING WATERLOO crown she won at FLEETWOOD BC in May. In the final at NEWPORT, she beat SALLY KING in the final 21-13 to take the county crown for the 2nd time.

Next up, ANDREA BUCKLEY defeated a field of Yorkshire County Ladies at LINTHWAITE HALL, HUDDERSFIELD to take her 7th ENID BLACKBURN TROPHY (since 2004). She defeated defending champion, LORRAINE HIRST 21-15 in the final and made it 3 winning weekends in a row as she qualified for the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS two weekends before by winning the YORKSHIRE MERIT and in between these two wins, added the HUDDERSFIELD MERIT.

Those two wins above meant reserve competition queen, NICOLA BOULTON’s success at MARTON on the May 4th qualified her for OWLEY WOOD but for good measure, she added the JUNE IOM TOURISM title by beating SALLY KING in the final, 21-19. That means SALLY has now lost twice in a final to qualify in June.

On June 1st, TINA RALPH of  NORTH SHROPSHIRE beat ELAINE JONES 21-19 in the final at WHIXALL to book her spot in the field.

The following day, SUE WORRAL defeated NICOLA BOULTON 21-20 in the MID CHESHIRE MERIT at TARVIN BC to deny NICOLA a 4th qualifying event title.  The day before, NICOLA had won a Mixed Pairs event at OWLEY WOOD so will be one to beat in September.

The next qualifier was CONNIE BATTY who won the BURTON & DISTRICT MERIT by beating SHARON GRIFFIN 21-20 in the final at MARSTONS BC on the 9th June.

Finally, defending champion JENNY MOORE won the IOM MERIT to give her the chance to add this years title to her 2021 ALL ENGLAND title too. Last Saturday, she defeated JANET MONK to retain the title she won last year.

There are only 4 qualifying events in July and they are listed below in the full update of the 2024 Ladies Champion-of-Champions as ever produced in colourful style by Dave Parkin.:
