A list of all the BCGBA competition entry fees may be of interest to you. I was interested to see that bowlers appear to be able to buy their entry into the end-of-season Champion-of-Champions competitions. I always thought that entry could only be achieved by winning one of the qualifying competitions but it seems that a £50 payment buys your way into the opening stages of the competition which defeats the objective of it somewhat. Or have I misread the interpretation of a £50 entry fee for non-qualifiers? Probably.
As Martin says, the £50 raised per comp (£3k in total) is put towards prize money for the event.
Firstly a player has to win a C of C qualifier and then either the player or the competition organisation will very kindly pay the £50 entry fee.
