Veterans League
The next round of the Bistro KO is this Tuesday. There are nine Division 1 teams still in the competition but just two all-Division 1 clashes lined up in the Round of the Last 32. They feature Waterloo v Kirkheaton Con and two-time competition winners Lockwood Con A v Clayton West who have never won it. Last year's two finalists are still in contention, Longwood and Brockholes A, but there are a number of potential banana skins waiting for top-flight teams.
It is possible for all five pairs teams to lose their respective games but still record a team win because of the aggregate start. For example, Division 3 leaders, Denby Dale, have a 23 handicap start on Golcar Lib A and that is a lot of points to claim back in a five-pairs format competition. It get worse. The 2023 Champions are Longwood and they have to track down a 36-point start that Dalton have over them. That's over 7 points a game to recover, so any pair not recording a 21-14 win is leaving more for teammates to claw back on top of their own handicap recovery total.
