Veterans League
You could say that Linthwaite Hall are enjoying their return to Veterans League bowling and if playing success is any measure of that then they are on Cloud 9. Sitting top of Division 3 and having already won the Sub-Team KO competition they are on a roll. To only be in two KO competitions and reach the final of both is a significant achievement usually reserved for the likes of Lockwood Con, not this year.
Having already beaten three Division 1 teams to reach the Final confidence will be high and once you are on a roll it can be the momentum that carries you along to surpass expected levels of success. However, there the positives must end because this is the seven-time Champions of the Veterans League who are the opponents and past masters at squashing the hopes of emerging talents. It would certainly be a great achievement for the Division 3 team to lift this title this year and would start to ring out the warning bells for next year's Division 2 opposition.
Amazingly Linthwaite Hall have won this competition more times than Lockwood Con. Having won it twice (1985 and 1998) over the 40 years life of the event whilst Lockwood Con have only once won this title and that was in 2017. Lockwood Con have always found the 5-Pairs format not best suited to their strengths hence the scarce return in trophies which may raise the hopes of the underdogs but that didn't work for the five casualties that got in their way en route to the Final.
So an intriguing Final in prospect and the best of luck to both teams. It all happens this Thursday at Brockholes with a 1.30pm start time.
