Veterans League
Preview of the Veterans 6-Man League fixtures scheduled for Monday 22 July
Attention this week turns to the foot of the Division 1 table as the bottom two teams go up against each other. Lockwood Con have won 2 of their last 4 league matches but are still 7 points behind Paddock I&C where they travel to this Monday. The Paddock side have lost their last 3 fixtures and in turn are 7 points behind a resurgent Crosland Moor team that has won their last three matches by the same 6-1 scoreline.
Brockholes A could be dragged into that relegation bunfight and face a trip to play leaders Marsh United A this week which will not improve their chances. With only a one-point lead over Waterloo, the Marsh team are desperate for a big home win to enhance their grip on top position as Waterloo go to play Milnsbridge A who beat them on their own turf earlier in the season.
Shepley A are well poised to take advantage of any slip-ups by the top two as they welcome Golcar C&BC this Tuesday. Netherton Con have lost their last three fixtures to drop out of the title race and will need to improve on that form if they are to return from Thongsbridge with any points added to their total.
The top 3 teams in Division 2 will all expect to win their matches this week with Clayton West looking to extend their winning run to 16 matches when Greenhead Park come to visit. Marsh Lib A and Bradley & Colne sit together on the same points mark and whilst a visit to bottom-of-the-table Elland C&BC will hold few fears for the Marsh Lib team. Bradley & Colne lost last week for the first time in eight matches against their bogey team Greenhead Park A who completed a double over them and remain the only team to win at Bradley & Colne this year. Mid-table Longwood are the latest team attempting to do that on Monday.
The Hemplow v Linthwaite Hall fixture brings together two struggling teams involved in the relegation battle. Hemplow are sat in the second relegation spot and with only 5-points between the two teams could be sitting clear with a big win this week. Linthwaite Hall will have been heartened by a first 7-0 win of the season last week whilst the home side are on a run of three straight defeats so anything could happen.
New Mill have won 3 of their last 4 league matches as well as reaching the Final of the Julie Fuller Trophy so are in a good place as they welcome a Golcar Lib team that has only beaten the bottom team in their last 5 matches.
Denby Dale have only lost one of their 14 Division 3 fixtures this season but are still 8 points off the top-of-the-table position occupied by Brockholes A. This week they have to go to 5th placed Skel Windmill B. Meanwhile Brockholes A are on a run of 5 wins on the bounce and have a home match against 8th placed Primrose Hill Lib, a match they would expect to win. The top two are 10 points clear of the chasing pack headed by Thongsbridge B who have a bye this week and could be overtaken by Holmfirth B who are away at Meltham on Monday.
