CROSLAND MOOR OPEN '64' 2022

3RD QUALIFYING NIGHT - FRIDAY 19TH AUGUST

A bumper crowd drawn by the prospect of watching Callum Wraight, the All-England Senior Merit Champion, on his first visit to Crosland Moor, were treated to an entertaining night's bowling but the main attraction didn't last the distance as Ian Booth and Chris Bly booked their places in this year's final.

Ian is qualifying in absolutely everything at the moment, clearly full of confidence following his big win at Hillcrest and the Moor was no exception as he made light work of Dan Williams (21-9) and Dean Missere (21-7). The qualifying round was not so plain sailing as Chris Davies (Kirkheaton Cons) put up a great fight, but it was Ian who found a good un under pressure to creep home 21-20.

Chris Bly meanwhile drew an absolute stinker of a draw. First up was a real battle with South Yorkshire's James Higgins via the smallest of margins 21-20 before the daunting prospect of the game's No1 Callum Wraight. This didn't faze Chris however as he never let Callum settle, a combination of some great firing by Chris and close bowling on a long tricky piece saw him home 21-9.

The task in hand hardly got any easier as Gareth Coates stood in the way to qualify, but again Chris did what he did all night and rammed them on with some great bowling to run out a comfortable 21-7 winner. How's that for a qualifying route? And he says that he's been struggling - yeah right!
