Review of the 6-Man League results of matches played on Monday 12 June
Netherton Con lose their Division 1 unbeaten record but focus turns to Division 3 where a massive pile up of teams at the top of the table follows an unexpected 7-0 defeat for the leaders.
What a car crash of a scene it is at the top of Division 3 as there is just 3 points between the top 7 teams after this week's set of results. Primrose Hill Lib gate-crash the title battle after thrashing the previous leaders, Marsh Lib, by the whitewash 7-0 scoreline. That pushes the Pip Hill side up 4 places from 6th to 2nd and sees them overtake their opponents as well.
Marsh United 'B' are the new leaders after their 5-2 home win over Thongsbridge who also remain among that congested top seven area. The Marsh team will not expect to stay top for long as they have played a match more than most of the leading pack but no doubt will continue to feature in that race for title for some while yet. A good 5-2 home win for New Mill over Holmfirth 'B' sees them leapfrog their opponents into that top seven pack of teams and only 3 points off the top with a match in hand over the leaders.
Greenhead Park slip out of the reckoning after a 2-5 loss away at Meltham who overtake them as a result. Shepley 'B' and Brockholes 'B' both lost and confirm the presence in the bottom two and that is unlikely to change with a wide gap materialising to the next team which is Hemplow who beat Brockholes 'B' 6-1.
The forecast of the match of the day in Division 1 was between two of the top three teams in the table but it didn't turn out that way as focus turned to the odd team out of those three as Netherton Con lost for the first time this season and that defeat came at home to lowly Lockwood Con. Going down 3-4 was a major setback to their title hopes and puts them 3 points behind the leaders Marsh United 'A' who won the top three confrontation 6-1 away at Brockholes 'A' who drop two places to fifth as things remain very tight at the top of the table.
The Brockholes team was overtaken by Shepley 'A' and Golcar C&BC who both won 6-1 away from home at Thongsbridge 'A' and Skel Windmill 'A' respectively. Those results certainly keeps both teams in the title chase and promises a close competition for the remainder of the season.
Things remain equally close at the foot of the table with 4 points separating the bottom four teams after this week's matches. Lockwood Con remain in that quartet despite their surprise win at Netherton with Longwood winning the bottom two meeting at Elland C&BC where the visitors won 5-2 to move off the foot of the table.
Following Netherton's first defeat of the season Division 2 leaders Paddock I&C are now the only team unbeaten in the 6-Man League with a 5-2 away win at Linthwaite Hall extending that record to 7 matches whilst Linthwaite Hall stay bottom of the Division 2 table. The meeting of the 2nd and 3rd placed teams saw Slaithwaite take the honours by beating Lindley Lib 'A' on their own lawn by a 5-2 margin. That closes the gap to one point between the two teams and also allows Clayton West into the promotion picture after their 5-2 home win over Golcar Lib.
Almondbury Lib were the only winners in the bottom four to ease their plight a little. A 5-2 home win over fellow strugglers Denby Dale eased their relegation fears for now but the gap to the team immediately above them has stretched to six points after Holmfirth 'A' had a key 6-1 home win over Skel Windmill 'B' who drop to third from bottom as a result.
