Clayton West win top two test

Veterans League

Review of the 6-Man League results of matches played on Monday 19 August

Clayton West won the tussle of the top two teams in Division 2 when winning at Bradley & Colne 5-2. That gives them a 7 points cushion which is the reward for only losing one match all season. That defeat for Bradley & Colne puts them in range of the chasing pack of three teams who all fancy their chances of snatching the second promotion place away from the long-time prime contenders.

New Mill are the outsiders of those three chasers but are the form team of the division with their latest 4-3 home win over Marsh Lib A who are also a major threat for a promotion place. That took New Mill's winning run to 7 league matches and they still have home fixtures coming up against the top two teams who will hardly relish that day out. After Monday's defeat Marsh Lib A sit level on points with Holmfirth A on 91 points. A 7-0 home win over Elland C&BC for Holmfirth A keeps them well in contention as things begin to get very interesting at the top of the division.

Lots to sort out at the foot of the table as well although Elland C&BC seem doomed to relegation but which team will go down with them is very much up in the air. Three points separate the three major teams in the frame for that relegation place. Two of those teams met at Hemplow on Monday where the home team recorded a welcome 6-1 win over Greenhead Park B which condemns the losers to the 2nd relegation spot for now. Linthwaite Hall remain in that mix after a 2-5 home defeat by Longwood.

There was a major setback to Shepley A's Division 1 title hopes after losing 2-5 at relegation-threatened Crosland Moor. Marsh United A and Waterloo now stretch out in the top two places after they both won their matches this week.

Leaders, Marsh United A, had a comfortable 6-1 home win over Milnsbridge A whilst Waterloo won by the same score away at Paddock I&C to keep the gap between the two teams at a manageable 3 points. Skel Windmill A needed the better aggregate total to edge their match 4-3 away at Thongsbridge A and Slaithwaite's 7-0 home win over Netherton Con A kept them on the fringe of the title race.

Crosland Moor's first win in 5 couldn't have been timed better as it coincided with defeats for the two teams below them in the table. Home defeats for Paddock (1-6 v Waterloo) and Lockwood Con (2-5 v Brockholes A) left them as the two favourites for the drop as Crosland Moor move 9 points clear of the relegation places.

Brockholes B continue to set a hot pace at the top of Division 3 with their latest 6-1 home win over Thongsbridge C extending their lead by a further point after Denby Dale were pushed all the way at Greenhead Park B with a 89-88 aggregate score helping them to a 5-2. Thongsbridge B haven't given up hope of pinching a promotion place as their 6-1 away win at Marsh Lib B was a 4th consecutive win to maintain the momentum of a team in the hunt.
