Bowling News
Steve Clamp is one of the new brooms invading the BCGBA Officials team sweeping away much of the stuffiness and 'lets not change anything' brigade who have stagnated bowling for too long. Here Steve issues some thoughts on how good communications at all levels can be very important and covers what that can extend to.
***Club Ideas and Governance***
One of the key things that most Crown Green Bowling Clubs (and Associations) can improve is communication. Good communication is essential for fostering a sense of community, sharing information and to ensure smooth operations. But how does your Club do it?
Over the last 15 years, the opportunities to improve communication have gone through the roof - it's now so much easier to do!!! How many of us remember when all information was sent out by letter....and how expensive was that!!! Let's have a look at a few of the best measures that you can implement as a Club or Association.
Website - A fantastic option for your Club/Association if you want to be able to share lots of information with your community. There's obviously costs involved, bith financial and time commitments in setting up and updating, but the results can be amazing.....and you can generate income from sponsors.
Social Media - Without doubt the quickest and easiest way to share information about your Club/Association. There's no cost involved to get set up, just the time it takes to post information. Remember, social media isn't just Facebook (albeit it's the most popular) - there's opportunities on Instagram, TikTok, X, and more. The key with social media is to make sure you post regular, make the posts eye-catching and share them with your members AND non-bowling local communities (local social groups, local 'active' groups, etc...).
Newsletters - Not as popular as they used to be but, if done right, can pass on a great deal of information to a wide audience. Newsletters need to be informative, visual, and easy to read for all audiences....and can be shared by email.
WhatsApp Groups - A quick, instant sharing of information within your Club/Association. The volume of information that can be shared is lower on this channel, but you can monitor who's received it. A slight word of caution is that people within the group need to be responsible with their responses.
Emails - This one is the easiest for Club/Association meetings. All members should have email addresses registered with their Secretary so that they can receive everything needed, and in a timely manner.
This list obviously isn't exhaustive, but hopefully gives you a flavour of some of the mediums that can be used effectively. Does your Club/County use them effectively? Which do you find most engaging? By doing this right, you'll find it much easier to support your members, develop your bowlers, and to interact with your local community.
