Cowcliffe A announced their arrival in the top division in the Winter League in the most emphatic manner with a last day of the season victory over Champions Thorpe Green to clinch the runners-up position. A runaway Division 2 title win last season was backed up with a very impressive first season at the top level. They knew that a win over the Champions would seal that 2nd place and as it turned out anything less would have conceded that runners-up slot to New Mill A.
The final day clash of the bottom two teams resulted in a 3rd win of the season for Lindley Lib A and whilst that didn't change the positions of the two teams it did enable the Lindley Lib team to draw level on points with Meltham A. The four years that Lindley Lib A have played in the Winter League they have either been promoted or relegated between Divisions 1 and 2. Who is to say that wont change with the traditional immediate yo-yo return to the top flight. The Meltham team also know what life is like in Division 2 having been promoted from there in the 2021-22 season as Champions and will view next season as an opportunity to regroup and prepare to mount another promotion push.
So a fifth Division 1 season draws to a close and with new names appearing on the fixture list next season we can look forward with huge anticipation of a top level of the highest order next season. The arrival of Hanging Heaton A and Golcar Lib to the top table is bound to raise the bar a notch or two and the bar has already been raised by Cowcliffe's exploits this season and there is more to come.
A final day photoshoot including the Champions with their trophy will be online tomorrow.
The Top Bowler award goes to Graham Hirst for a third time recovering from this 4th place final placing last season. Cowcliffe have indicated their presence is here to stay with three of their bowlers in the Top 10 places and other new names also announcing their arrival on the scene. That includes Thorpe Green bowler Andy Wike who played 11 matches and won them all. It all bodes well for the future.
