Crunch time at Marsh United for leaders

Veterans League

Preview of the Tuesday 6 August Division 1 matches in Divisions 1 & 2 of the 10-Man League

A trip to play a Division 1 match at Marsh United A is not the ideal recovery path for leaders Lowerhouses after their shock defeat at Netherton Cons last week. They need to raise their game to protect their 8-point lead at the top of the table but with both teams coming into the match on the back of rare defeats last week anything can happen. To ramp up the pressure a little more Lowerhouses are the only top-five team with an away fixture this week and only Rastrick have beaten Marsh United A on their home turf this season..

Surprise losses were not confined to the top two as 4 of the top 5 teams lost their fixtures last week. The only winner being Longwood who have moved in menacingly close to the top two. This week they could seriously damage Clayton West's hopes to move out of the drop zone whilst Lindley BC A will not relish an away match at Cowcliffe as the place to build up their points tally. Netherton Con will aimi to build on their big win from last week when they go to Rastrick and Golcar Lib A and Kirkheaton Con A start their match with just one-point between the teams.

The top four teams in Division 2 all face away matches this week with third-placed Lindley Lib A having the most difficult-looking of those fixtures when they play at fifth-placed Thongsbridge A. Only Elland C&BC have dented the Thongsbridge team's home record and with Meltham looking to take their current winning run into double-figures with the insurance of a 21-points lead at the top of the table it is down to the chasing pack to resolve promotion matters between themselves.

Elland C&BC go to bottom-of-the-table Almondbury Lib who have lost their last seven matches and are now 12 points off safety. Milnsbridge A are away at Shepley who will be looking for a positive reaction to their 0-9 loss at Meltham last week. Broad Oak A seem to have found a bit of form recently and will need it to hold off a visiting New Mill team whilst two teams hoping to benefit from the bottom two's plight go up against each other when Linthwaite Hall host Golcar Lib B. Both teams are on 47 points and are one place above the relegation places so the benefit of a win over their closest opponents should not be under-estimated.
