Winter League
A preview of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for Wednesday 31 January
Lindley BC A and New Mill A meet each other this Wednesday with the loser being threatened with elimination from the Division 1 title race. The teams sit 2nd and 3rd equal on points and matches played and just 6 points ahead of reigning Champions Lower Hopton who have a match in hand. Both have to play the leaders Thorpe Green again so would hope to do that from a position of strength and with a real chance of passing them in the table. The teams drew 4-4 when they met earlier in the season and a repeat of that result wouldn't help either team's cause right now. Lindley BC A are the division's form team at present having won 6 of their last 7 matches and momentum could carry them through.
With the leaders, Thorpe Green A, taking on a bottom-of-the-table Golcar Lib team desparate to restate their case for being put in the top division this season and with a remaining programme of playing 3 of the top 4 teams they have the chance to prove that.
Lowerhouses take on the last team that they didn't lose to this Wednesday when meeting Kirkheaton Con A who they drew 4-4 with last November. Since then they have lost 7 matches on the bounce to find themselves in dire straits and with a fixture programme that includes 3 of the top 4 teams in their remaining 5 matches.
Three teams trail the Division 2 leaders Cowcliffe A and are all level on 52 points with Lindley Lib A having the best recent form of that trio having beaten the two teams above them in their latest 3-match winning run. They meet bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield Recreation Club A who have only won one of their last eight fixtures but still remain in catching range of safety despite that.
Denby Dale are also in that trio of hopefuls and with a match in hand over their two rivals and on a run which has seen them only be beaten by the top two teams in their last eight matches and a match this week against Lockwood Con their hopes of further advancement have serious credibility. The other member of that chasing pack is Milnsbridge A who have a bye week and will see Cowcliffe A probably stretch their lead at the top when they take on relegation threatened Brockholes A.
Lindley BC B playing Springwood A completes the Wednesday programme with both teams needing points to distance themselves from the relegation places with the Springwood team in the greater danger of becoming entangled in that scenario. However they do have the better recent form guide having won 2 of their last 3 matches whilst Lindley BC B are on a run of three straight defeats which includes defeats by two teams below them in the table.
