Denby Dale forge ahead after top two clash

Veterans League

Review of the Divisions 3,4 & 5 fixtures played on Tuesday 14 May

The battle of the two teams with 100% win records in Division 3 saw the leaders, Denby Dale, extend their record at the expense of Brockholes A. A 7-2 home win was sufficient to widen their lead at the top from three to eight points as the threat of Elland WMC moves into second position. They clocked up the only whitewash scoreline in the 10-Man League this week as they saw off Hemplow A.

Outlane and Slaithwaite were locked together on 18 points so the expected close encounter materialised with the visiting Slaithwaite side edging it 5-4 thanks to the greater aggregate score of 123-114. There was an even close aggregate score in the Thorpe Green v Skel Windmill as both teams accumulated 106 points which was enough for the visiting Skel team to run out 5-4 victors.

Holmfirth A leapfrogged Lindley Lib B in the table after beating them 7-2 and a big 8-1 win for Paddock I&C over Springwood saw them move up four places to 5th position.

The day started with the top three teams in Division 4 all on 25 points but with the leaders, Kirkheaton C&BC A, the only home team and the only winners as they ran out convincing 8-1 winners over Meltham B to open up a four-point lead. Milnsbridge B lost the division's last unbeaten record when going down 4-5 at Brockholes B and Marsh United B lost 2-7 away at Huddersfield Recreation Club to drop down to third place. Lockwood Con B and Ravensknowle Park and stay in 4th and 5th positions after the Park beat the Con by 6-3.

The clash of the bottom two teams in the division resulted in a crushing win for the Rugby Club who overwhelmed Lindley BC B by 8-1 to move up three places to eighth and leave the Lindley team stranded with a 13-point gap to safety. Marsh Lib hit Thongsbridge B with a 7-2 away win which included two 21-2 game scores and they pass their opponents who dropped three places to 9th position as a result.

Whilst the Division 5 leaders, Netherton Con B, were collecting a 7-2 away win at struggling Broad Oak B their two main rivals clashed at Kirkheaton Con B who went down 3-6 to the visiting David Brown Sports side although the league positions remain unchanged for both teams. Hemplow B and Dalton both sneaked closer to the leading trio after home wins over Greenhead Park 6-3 and Holmfirth B 8-1 respectively. That was a three-position leap up the table for Dalton passing New Mill B who went down 2-7 at Almondbury BC B who join them on 20 points in mid-table after a climb of four places to 7th position. Primrose Hill Lib and Kirkheaton C&BC B were entangled in a close match with Pip Hill winning 5-4 after a sharing of the aggregate points after a 119-119 scoreline.
