Veterans League
Preview of the Veterans 6-Man League fixtures scheduled for Monday 29 July
Marsh United A are the Division 1 leaders but are now under real pressure to retain their title as they are the only top four team with an away fixture this coming Monday. They have to travel to play Golcar C&BC who are completing a run of matches against the top four teams in the League and have lost the previous three. But with Shepley A, Waterloo and Skel Windmill A all having home fixtures the pressure is on the leaders.
Shepley A play Thongsbridge A, Waterloo want to bounce back from a 1-6 defeat at Milnsbridge A last week when they host relegation-threatened Crosland Moor and then Skel Windmill A welcome 5th-placed Milnsbridge BC A.
The bottom three teams all have away matches this Monday with Paddock I&C in a contest against 4th from bottom Brockholes A. In addition to Crosland Moor going to Waterloo fellow strugglers, Lockwood Con are away at Slaithwaite who are looking to complete a double over their Monday visitors.
There is a 2nd v 3rd clash in Division 2 this week as Bradley & Colne go to play Marsh Lib A. Clayton West will be watching the outcome with interest as a close result would suit the leaders who are away at Lindley Lib B.
Milnsbridge BC B have lost their last eight matches to find themselves in the relegation places, a situation they need to address very soon if they are not to end the season where they are now. A good opportunity presents itself this week as they have a home fixture with Linthwaite Hall who sit two places and three points above them in the table.
Hemplow are sandwiched between those two teams and with an away match at Longwood coming up could find themselves in the drop zone if results go as expected. Almondbury Lib could give themselves a huge lift with an away win at bottom team Elland C&BC which could widen the gap between themselves and the relegation candidates.
With Division 2 2nd-placed Denby Dale having a bye-week presents the perfect opportunity for Brockholes to widen their lead at the top of the table. However, Thongsbridge B are not the opponents they would have picked for themselves to do that. Third-placed Holmfirth B have home advantage over Marsh Lib B who are 3 places and 3 points behind them so could benefit enormously from a good result.
Marsh United B have won only one of their last nine matches which accounts for their second from bottom status. This week they have a home match against a Skel Windmill B side that is on a high after their home win and only the second defeat of the season for Denby Dale last week.
The two Friday fixtures could have a big impact on matters near the foot of the table. Meltham have been on a great run of results winning five on the bounce before going down narrowly at home to Holmfirth B last week. They will be aiming to return to winning ways with their Friday fixture away at Brockholes C who they could pass in the table with a win. Thongsbridge C are level on points with Meltham but have lost their last four matches and have to face a Greenhead Park B side that won for the first time in six when overcoming Marsh United B last time out.
