Preview of the Divisions 1&2 fixtures to be played on Tuesday 4 June
After a week off with Bistro ties being played last week, the League action resumes in the 10-Man League with a set of fixtures in the top two divisions that will impact on matters at both end of the tables.
Lowerhouses haven't lost a Division 1 match since the opening day of the season and will expect to keep that record intact with a home fixture against Cowcliffe on Tuesday. Longwood will want to ensure that the current 4 points gap to the leaders doesn't get any bigger ahead of a top two clash next week but they have to go to Rastrick this week where only Lowerhouses have breached the home team's record so far.
One point separates the next four teams in the table with two of those teams going against each other as Lockwood Con A host Golcar Lib A. Waterloo go to Marsh United A who won for the first time in four last week away at Cowcliffe.
Clayton West are the only team to have beaten Lowerhouses this season but that was on the first day of the campaign and they haven't won since but will be aiming to rectify that record this week at home to Lindley BC A. Netherton Con are still searching for their first win of the year and welcome Kirkheaton Con A to their green this week where a win could take them past their Tuesday opponents.
Meltham A and Lindley Lib have identical Division 2 records this season of having won 5 out of their 6 fixtures. However that is where the similarity ends as there are 11 points between the teams and three places in the table. That could all change this week as the two teams meet although home advantage should see the leaders extend that gap. The three teams relegated from Division 1 last season continue to set the pace back to the top division and Lindley Lib A will do well to still figure in the title race after this week's challenge. Meltham will be looking to extend the gap over the two teams immediately behind them in the table as 3rd placed Milnsbridge A host 2nd placed Elland C&BC.
There is just one point between the bottom four teams and they play each other in what is going to be a big moment in the relegation fight. Almondbury BC A sit bottom but are the only one of the bottom four teams to have won more than one match and will be keen to have that disparity shown in the League positions after playing at Shepley this week. Linthwaite Hall and Broad Oak A is the other relegation confrontation where home advantage could be key in determining the outcome. A good win for any of the four teams could be an important stage of any recovery so the importance of these matches cannot be under-estimated for the four teams involved.
Almondbury Lib are in danger of dropping into the relegation zone and need points at New Mill A who have won all their home matches to date. The mid-table tussle between Golcar Lib B and Thongsbridge A is unlikely to alter that status and completes the Tuesday fixture programme.
