The Winter League season is drawing to a close in more ways than one for Division 2 teams. With the penultimate round of fixtures on Tuesday seeing the top two teams surprisingly held to drawn results against bottom-three opposition.
The leaders, Hanging Heaton A, needed a 59-55 aggregate outcome to share the points 4-4 with Milnsbridge A. The Milnsbridge team have been on a poor run of results only winning one of their last 8 matches which resulted in their slide down the table. Having won two of the three legs they were unfortunate not to take the aggregate. However, the 4 points they did collect are sufficient to take them out of the danger of relegation. The two Lindley teams below them in the table both failed to win and that puts Milnsbridge in a secure position and they have retained their 2025-26 season status in Division 2.
Golcar Lib failed to take advantage of Hanging Heaton's failure to win against Milnsbridge as they also drew 4-4 another surprising result as they played bottom of the table Lindley BC B. A result that lifted the Lindley team off the foot of the table but not enough to save them for another week as their relegation is confirmed. They are going down to Division 3 along with their neighbours from Lindley Lib to no doubt regroup and make another challenge next season. A better result for Golcar Lib would have closed the 6 points deficit on the leaders but as it now stands that gap remains at 6 points with one match left to play. That match pitches the top two teams against each other when the only way that Golcar Lib can take the title is by winning their final day match by 8-0.
In each division, bowlers are playing for a trophy to be awarded to the Top Bowler based on the joint scores of singles and pairs for each bowler. The competition in Division 2 is dominated by Hanging Heaton and Golcar Lib bowlers as can be seen by the latest table below. Positions are based on Games Won and if they are level then it goes to the 'Aggregate Difference' total. Another final day decider looms. With 6 bowlers still in contention for that honour it promises to be another tense final day of the season.
