Winter League
Yes I now know I've posted out of sequence so you can look forward to the Division 3 tables tomorrow instead. Sorry.
Today it is the turn of the Division 2 candidates for the Top Bowler award and we have a husband and wife team and Marsh United teammates, Andy and Lynn Carter both in the top four. Things are really tight at the top of the table where the top 10 bowlers have all scored 5 or 6 wins so one defeat can put you right out of the running and standards are very high.
Whilst Marsh United have three bowlers in the top 10 it is Hanging Heaton who have the most interest in affairs with four bowlers in the leading 10 at present. One of those four, Chris Blakely, leads the way with 6 wins all gained in pairs matches but it is a fragile lead with a queue of candidates lined up behind him to take full advantage of any slip-up. There is a long way to go but things look very interesting and worth monitoring over the coming weeks of the season.
Every season we acknowledge and reward the achievement of the top performing bowlers in each of the 8 Divisions of the Winter League by the awarding of a perpetual trophy and a small award to keep.
The criteria for the running order was determined by the teams at the 2021 AGM and has remained unaltered since then. We merge the Singles and Pairs results to produce one grand total that determines the place in the table of each bowler. Then it is the number of wins followed by the Aggregate Difference to sort out the actual placings in the table which is updated every week on our Bowlnet pages.
There is a minimum number of games that bowlers must have played to qualify to be in the running order and that stands at playing in 60% of the 14 games of the season in each Division. That equates to 9 games as a minimum that bowlers muct play to be within a chance of winning the Top Bowler award. Bowlsnet is very clever in that it will recognise right through the season which bowlers can no longer achieve that total and will push them to the bottom of the table.
We are producing the updated tables for each Division, one a day right through to New Year's Day when it will be the turn of the Division 1 bowlers. Today it is the turn of Division 3 and for interest we provide the top 10 places in the Singles and Pairs tables but it is only the combined scores that will point towards the awarding of the Top Bowler trophy in each Division.
You can see the Top 100 bowler placings by Singles, Pairs or Combined Scores in each Division on our Bowlsnet pages and they are automatically updated every time a match result is entered so are always up to date.
