Division 3 back up and running this week

Winter League

A preview of the matches to be played on Monday 8 January in Divisions 3 & 4

A series of situations means that teams in Division 3 have only played one match since the end of November and in fact the Lindley Lib B side haven't played any fixtures over that period. So hopes are high that the weather will be kinder to us and Monday bowling will return to Primrose Hill Lib this week.

With two points between the two runaway leaders interest continues to focus on the Hanging Heaton and Marsh United battle for the title with the Hanging Heaton side claiming top spot just before Christmas for the first time. This week they will take on a Milnsbridge B side that is desperate for a win to push themselves back into contention for promotion whilst Marsh United meet a rusty Lindley Lib B team.

This could be the last chance that Paddock I&C has to stave off the threat of relegation as they meet their nearest rivals Dalton and nothing less than a win will suffice.

Rastrick could have done without the Christmas break after being the first team to beat Marsh United and on a high but a meeting against bottom-of-the-table Primrose Hill Lib, who are still seeking their first win of the season, should be within their range this Monday.

None of the top four teams in Division 4 are in their best form of the season so will all be grateful for avoiding each other with fixtures against bottom-half-of-the-table opponents this week. Lowerhouses B are the division's form team having won their last 5 matches and a big win against the leaders, New Mill C, is not beyond their capability and would be a welcome outcome and not just for them.

Fourth-placed Netherton Con A have a match against bottom-of-the-table Springwood B and a big win could certainly put them in the promotion mix. Almondbury BC A have started to stir with their first two wins of their season coming in their last two matches, both against top three opponents, but they remain in the relegation places for now but they are clearly capable of moving up the table. Second-placed Lindley Lib C will be a real test for them this week but recent results suggest that a big win is certainly within their scope.

Bowlers at Lindley Liberal Club on Monday will be able to put their names down for entry into the Division 4 Winter Cup Qualifying Round which will be played on the Lindley Lib green on Tuesday 13 February. Full details are here.
