Division 3 top two widen promotion gap

Veterans League

Review of Tuesday's results in Divisions 3, 4 & 5 of the 10-Man League

The top three teams in Division 3 all had away fixtures this week and third-placed Brockholes A were the only losers in that trio. They went down 2-7 at Slaithwaite who moved up two places to 5th as a result. Despite that climb Slaithwaite remain, points-wise, nearer the bottom than the top of the division.

Denby Dale and Elland WMC both won their Tuesday matches this week at Outlane (8-1) and a 9-man Thorpe Green (7-2) respectively to create an 8-point gap between the promotion places and the chasers.

There were three 9-0 scorelines this week in the 10-Man League the first coming from Division 3 side Springwood with a whitewash win over Skel Windmill who are now in bottom place after they were passed by Thorpe Green. That Springwood win keeps them clear of relegation worries for now as does a good 7-2 home win for Hemplow A over Lindley Lib B.

The Division 4 leaders, Lockwood Con B, suffered a 3-6 away defeat at Milnsbridge B as Marsh United B gate-crashed the promotion party with a 9-0 home win over Meltham B. That puts them well in contention among a group of four teams at the top only separated by 4 points. That win for Milnsbridge enabled them to leapfrog Kirkheaton C&BC A who lost 3-6 at Huddersfield Recreation Club.

It was a good day to be a Marsh bowler as the Liberal Club also had a 9-0 win this time over Lindley BC B who were not helped by being a bowler short, just as their A team were in their Division 1 fixture on the same day.

A good 8-1 home win for Brockholes B side saw them overtake fellow strugglers Huddersfield RUBC. Thongsbridge B inched away from the drop zone with a 6-3 away win over Ravensknowle Park to overtake their matchday rivals.

Comfortable 8-1 wins for the top two teams in Division 5 ensured that the running order remains unchanged as Netherton Con B won at home over New Mill B and David Brown Sports went to Kirkheaton C&BC B to collect a good away win. Greenhead Park and Primrose Hill Lib both had good away wins as well whilst Dalton took a firmer grip on third place by beating Hemplow B 6-3 to extend their lead over Kirkheaton Con B who lost at Broad Oak B by 4-5.
