Veterans League
Preview of the Tuesday 18 June fixtures scheduled in Divisions 3, 4 % 5 of the 10-Man League
The top two teams in Division 5 go up against each other this Tuesday as the leaders Netherton Con B travel to Dvaid Brown Sports protecting a 9-points lead which means they will probably still be top regardless of the outcome of that meeting. The Netherton team are protecting the 10-Mans League last unbeaten record but this will be their biggest test yet, away to their nearest rivals.
Third-placed Dalton could benefit from the top two playing each other but have to go to play a Primrose Hill Lib team that has only lost to the table toppers in their last 5 matches. The Kirkheaton derby match sees the Cons team with home advantage but only one point ahead of their Cricket Club neighbours.
The bottom six teams play each other and with only 7 points between them, there could be a totally different composition of positions by close of play. The three teams with home advantage, New Mill B, Broad Oak B and Hemplow B will all need to use that local knowledge to stay ahead.
It is looking like a three-horse race in Division 3 as there is now a minimum 10-points gap between that top trio and Outlane who lead the chasing pack. The Outlane team get the opportunity to do something about that this week as they go to play 2nd in the table Elland WMC where only a win will do. The other two members of that leading trio both have winnable fixtures this week as leaders Denby Dale have a home match against Denby Dale and Brockholes need to win at Skel Windmill to keep their promotion hopes alive.
The bottom three teams all have away fixtures this week increasing the difficulty they have in moving away from the drop zone. The best hope for picking up some points rests with Hemplow A who are the only one of that trio with a match against a bottom-half-of-the-table opponent in Holmfirth A.
The top two teams in Division 4 both have home matches this Tuesday with the next four teams all facing away fixtures and the likelihood of minimal change in the running order. Kirkheaton C&BC A have faltered recently as a run of one win in three has seen them be overtaken at the top by Lockwood Con B who have won their last three matches.
The bottom three teams of Lindley BC B, Thongsbridge B and Brockholes B all have home matches to look forward to but all are in really poor form at present. Meltham B have divorced themselves from the nether region after 2 wins from their last three matches but an away match with table toppers Lockwood Con B could curtail that recovery sequence.
