Winter League
Review of the Division 8 matches played at Lockwood Con Tuesday 10 December
The top three teams in Division 8 all lost their matches this week including the Leaders, Golcar C&BC, who were losing for the first time this season. The unusual scoreline of 5-3 created by a drawn aggregate (48-48) to add to a 4-2 match score leading to the 5-3 win for Broad Oak A putting a dent in the leaders unbeaten record. However with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams also going down the impact on their lead was almost minimal.
The other two misfiring top teams being Cowcliffe C (losing 2-6 to Linthwaite Hall B} and Lockwood Con C (going down 2-6 to Kirkheaton C&BC B). That was a first-ever win in the Winter League for the Kirkburton team so congratulations to them and as forecast in my preview of the Division 8 fixtures when I selected this encounter as my Match of the Day highlighting the improving form of the Cricket Club's team.
There was also a very good win for the Linthwaite Hall B team over the host's C team which saw the homesters drop a place to fourth having been overtaken by an improving Holmfirth team who were winning for the third consecutive match and making them a real threat in the promotion race. That run has coincided with a five-match run of matches without a win for the Mirfield B side who are now within the range of the bottom two. Suddenly the Division 8 teams have started to come alive although the Golcar C&BC team still look nailed on for the title.
