Divisions 1&2 Tuesday preview

Veterans League

Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures for Tuesday 27 August

Last year Golcar Lib A took the Division 1 title whilst Lowerhouses finished in 5th place. Today those positions are reversed as Lowerhouses steam ahead for the 2024 title with an 18-point lead over their nearest rival and 31 points ahead of their Tuesday opponents Golcar Lib A. The Golcar team are on their best winning run of the season which now extends to four matches but they were all against teams now in the bottom half of the table. Lowerhouses have won every home fixture this season and anything else other than an extension of that sequence would be a major surprise.

Marsh United A and Longwood compete for the runner-up position with the Marsh team are at home to 4th placed Cowcliffe and Longwood go to play bottom-of-the-table Netherton Con A who have won their last two home matches against Lowerhouses and Waterloo. Lindley BC A and Clayton West are both trying to avoid the 2nd relegation place with the LIndley team away at Lockwood Con A and Clayton West host a Waterloo team that has lost its last four fixtures to dive down the table.

Rastrick have lost 3 of their last 4 starts whereas their Tuesday opponents, Kirkheaton Con A, have won 3 of their last 4 starts. However two of the defeats for Rastrick were against the top two teams in the Division. This fixture has a 10.30am start time.

Lindley Lib A's 8-match Division 2 winning run ended last week at Elland C&BC and they need to pick up the pieces and go again this Tuesday to stay in the second promotion spot. They will need to be at their best when they travel to play New Mill A who have only lost once at home all season. Elland are just 3 points behind them and have an equally tricky-looking away fixture this week when they go to play Shepley A.

The second promotion place is now down to these two contenders with Meltham A striding away at the top with a 20 points lead whilst the chasing pack are 15 points off the pace at present.

Almondbury Lib seem doomed to drop a level being 15 points adrift with their losing run stretching into double figures but who goes down with them is very much in the air. Only one point separates the next three teams but it could be even more inclusive with Almondbury BC A and Thongsbridge A not out of the drop zone yet.

Linthwaite Hall, Golcar Lib B and Broad Oak A are the three teams in most danger at present although Broad Oak A are enjoying their best run of the season with 4 wins in their last 4 fixtures showing their potential however this week they are away at runaway leaders Meltam A. The other two strugglers both have home matches this week with Golcar Lib B having a home fixture against bottom-of-the-table Almondbury Lib so will be expecting a big win but they will need that and more to fend off the upsurge of Linthwaite Hall who have won 3 of their last 5 starts.
