Divisions 5&6 leaders have the week off

Winter League

A preview of the Division 5 & 6 fixtures scheduled for Thursday 4 January

The Division 5 leaders, Slaithwaite, are without a match this week and could find themselves overtaken by Brockholes B on Thursday. They are 4 points behind the leaders and play bottom of the table Netherton Con B and just need a win to go top. Springwood C are also in range of a promotion place as well but have the more difficult task of overcoming Jackson Bridge who are unbeaten in their last 6 matches.

Outlane will be looking to get their faltering promotion hopes back on track by completing a League double over the Huddersfield Recreation Club.

It is very tight at the top of the Division 5 table with 5 teams stacked up behind the leader and only separated by 6 points. Almondbury BC B have forced themselves into that cluster after three wins from their last four fixtures and will expect to enhance their chances further when they take on Mirfield A on Thursday.

The Division 6 leaders, Linthwaite Hall, also have a bye week but are in no immediate danger of being overtaken as they hold a 16-points lead over second-placed New Mill C who will expect to narrow the gap as they take on struggling Kirkheaton Con B. The teams in 3rd and 4th position are only separated by 2 points and they go head-to-head this Thursday. Both Lockwood Con B and Huddersfield RUBC will be looking to improve on a run of indifferent results as they look to improve on their promotion hopes.

Only one win in their last 6 matches for Golcar C&BC but their opponents this week, Mirfield B, have a worse record with only one win all season. With the expectation that there will be a Division 7 and Division 8 next season it is likely that the bottom two teams at the end of the season will be relegated so there is still a lot to play for including the Broad Oak team who are just above the drop zone at present and a good win over Cowcliffe this week would ease their concerns considerably. However, the Cowcliffe side has won 3 of their last 4 fixtures, their best run of the season, so will be confident of seeing off the threat.
