Well Bowled Fantasy League
I thought it may be of interest to some of you to look at the number of votes for teams in the Fantasy League summer season just completed. Then taking those in order of most popular selections and then see how those teams fared in the actual league competition.
It always surprises me how many no-hopers go on to win their respective divisions. Take the Division 1 Champions this year for example. Only 3 of the 84 entrants selected Lowerhouses at the start of the season but they romped away with the title.
The team to receive the most votes for any of the 8 divisions was Marsh United B in Division 1 of the 6-Man League. They were selected by 49 of the 84 entrants as the most popular choice in the competition and they duly went on to deliver for their supporters.
The 6-Man League was the most difficult for the punters whilst they did very well with Marsh United in Division 1 the other two Divisions were a complete wipe-out. Division 2 Champions Clayton West only received 2 votes but romped away with the title. It was even more marked in Division 3 where Brockholes A only attracted one vote, the lowest number of any title-winning team. They not only won it but were the biggest winners in the 6-Man League with a clear 17 points ahead of the second-place team.
Another team under the Fantasy League entrants radar was Netherton Con B in Division 5 of the 10-Man League only attracting 3 votes.
However there were some notable successes. In Division 2 of the 10-Man League the top 4 selections ended the season in the top 4 places albeit with a reversal of the 1 and 2 positions but otherwise spot on.
In Division 3 the punters got the top two, Elland WMC and Denby Dale spot on and in the correct order.
In Division 4 you were all dead right again with Marsh Lib taking the most votes and the title. But only in 3 of the 8 Divisions did the punter's top pick become the eventual Champions.
