Review of the Veterans 6-Man League matches played on Monday 1 July
There were three 7-0 whitewash scorelines in the Division 1 matches played this week in the 6-Man League and that included a vital win for the leaders, Marsh United A. That result just about put paid to any hopes that Slaithwaite might have harboured about joining the fight at the top for the title.
Similarly Lindley Lib A also suffered a 0-7 defeat at Thongsbridge A to send them down into the bottom half of the table and out of contention for any honours this season. The third 7-0 winner was Milnsbridge A over Paddock I&C which pulled the losers into the relegation mire after Crosland Moor beat Lockwood Con 6-1 to move themselves to within a point of safety and send shivers through the Paddock ranks.
Waterloo and Shepley were both 6-1 winners to move them both up two places to finish the day in 2nd and 3rd positions but still 5 points behind the leaders. Skel Windmill A and Netherton Con were the two losers in the top five and the 5 points that separated the top five teams has now become a more decisive 9 points.
Clayton West continued their impressive Division 2 winning run stretching it to a season-long 13 matches now with Hemplow being the latest team on the end of a thumping but one point for the team second from bottom is probably par for the course. That was sufficient to keep Hemplow in touch with the team above them, Linthwaite Hall, who also lost 1-6 at Holmfirth A and the two strugglers remain on the same 32-point mark.
Elland C&BC remain bottom and are 12 points adrift after a 2-5 home defeat by Golcar Lib who are 2 points off the second promotion place held by Bradley & Colne after their 5-2 home win over Milnsbridge B.
Denby Dale's 100% Division 3 win record was blown out of the water after a visiting Thongsbridge B team beat them 6-1. That reduces the Thongsbridge B team and the second promotion place gap to 6 points whereas it was 9 points before Monday's fixtures. A first defeat after 11 straight wins now sees the Dale 7 points behind the leaders, Brockholes B, who had a 7-0 home win over bottom-of-the-table Shepley B. That defeat for Shepley was made all the more uncomfortable as their nearest rivals, Meltham, had a 5-2 home win over Primrose Hill Lib.
