Veterans League
Review of the matches in the 10-Man League matches in Divisions 3,4 & 5 played on 9 July
The top two teams in Division 3 all won their Tuesday home fixtures with the top two extending the gap to third-placed Brockholes A which means they are 9 points off a promotion place as the season reaches the halfway point. Denby Dale retain their 2 points advantage over Elland WMC after beating Thorpe Green 8-1 which saw the losers return to bottom place in the table.
Elland's 7-2 home win over Paddock I&C ended the visitors four-match winning run and they are now 22 points off a promotion place. Brockholes A also won their home fixture against Springwood by 6-3 but that only added to the widening gap to the top two.
In Division 4 Milnsbridge take over at the top after a 6-3 away win at Meltham as the previous leaders Lockwood Con B were without a match and drop to 4th place. They were also overtaken by Marsh United B who won 6-3 away at the Rugby Club and Kirkheaton C&BC who surprisingly lost at home to Ravensknowle Park by 3-6.
There was a first win of the season for Lindley BC B with a 6-3 home win over Huddersfield Recreation Club with a 127-124 aggregate scoreline clinching that memorable first win. They remain well adrift of the rest of the teams and it looks inevitable that they will be relegated this season but who goes down with them remains very much up in the air. The three teams above them all lost this week to keep the outcome in doubt as we pass the halfway point of the season.
It was a good day for David Brown Sports who took over as the Division 5 leaders after a 6-3 home win over third-placed Dalton whilst their nearest challengers, Netherton Con B were losing 3-6 away at Greenhead Park and Kirkheaton Con B lost ground in the title race after just edging their home match with Holmfirth B by 5-4 after clinching the aggregate by 120-119.
New Mill B moved up a place after beating rivals Kirkheaton C&BC B by 6-3 and Almondbury BC B remain at the foot after a 2-7 loss at Hemplow B. Primrose Hill Lib won the mid-table meeting with Broad Oak B by 6-3 to leave both teams where they started the day in mid-table.
