Focus on two promotion races

Winter League

A preview of the Divisions 5 & 6 matches scheduled for Thursday 25 January

Things are really tight at the top of the Division 5 table with only 2-points between the top four teams now. Slaithwaite remain in pole position with having played less games than any of their top four rivals. They have won their last three matches and this Thursday they take on lowly Huddersfield Recreation Club B who will remain second-from-bottom regardless of what happens in this match. Outlane had a surprise defeat last week to Mirfield A and could be overtaken by Thursday opponents, Springwood C, if results go against them.

Only the leaders have beaten Jackson Bridge in their last 9 fixtures and this week they face Almondbury BC B who have won 4 of their last 5 fixtures so anything could happen. Mirfield A have won their last two matches and with meeting bottom-of-the-table Netherton Con B this Thursday will fancy their chances of extending that sequence even further.

There is an early start (10.00am) for the catch-up match between Springwood C and Huddersfield Recreation Club B.

In Division 6 Tuesday's catch-up match involving the leaders, Linthwaite Hall, when they were supposed to easily beat lowly Kirkheaton Con B never quite stayed with the script as they went down 2-6. An 8-0 win would have given them promotion but that has been put on the back-burner for now. Any sort of win on Thursday when they play Cowcliffe B will put that target behind them. However the Cowcliffe team will be no walkover as they have won their last five matches and have promotion aspirations of their own that they will look to feed.

Any win for Linfit will confirm promotion and allow them to concentrate on the title chase between themselves and New Mill C. However New Mill will do well to look over their shoulder where they will see Cowcliffe B and the RUFC loitering with intent and both well placed to deny them the second promotion place.

Mirfield B seem to just be starting to get the hang of this winter bowling having won 2 of their last 3 matches and in that sort of form could shake Lockwood Con B who failed to field a full team on Tuesday, the first time this has happened in a Winter League match. Kirkheaton Con B would like to build on Tuesday's shock win by taking points off the RUFC
