Review of the rearranged Division 8 fixtures at Lockwood Con on Friday
The Friday rearranged fixture programme for Division 8 teams produced four 8-0 scorelines only one of which was unexpected. The top two teams were on the right end of these whitewash results as Golcar C&BC bounced back from a 0-8 reversal against Cowcliffe C on Tuesday to confirm their status at the top of the table. Their win over Lockwood C means their promotion is already secured and another four points from their remaining two fixtures will add the Division 8 title to crown their good season.
Holmfirth have emerged as the main challenger to the leaders but will look back on a good first season in the League if they can collect 7 points from their last two matches to confirm their promotion. An 8-0 win over Cowcliffe C set up that opportunity and as those last two fixtures are against bottom 3 teams it would be a major surprise if that total wasn't reached.
An 8-0 win for Mirfield B over bottom of the table Kirkheation C&BC B failed to retain the winners interest in promotion but means a promising opening season for them. Whereas that result confirmed the Cricket Club's relegation, assuming that there will be a Division 9 next season for them to be relegated to. The one unexpected 8-0 win came from Linthwaite Hall B who beat Broad Oak B and passed them in the table as a result.
