Club News
A number of clubs have started to realise the real benefit to members of having a defibrillator on site in the event of a medical emergency. Some clubs have started to invest in their own devices which are kept in the club and readily available on matchdays.
Although very commendable there is a problem with this practice in so much as you do need some knowledge of how to operate them. Gaining that knowledge is a problem as you can only access the defibrillator with a code which will be provided by the 999 call operator. They only issue this code for a real emergency situation. So how do club members get some degree of knowledge without being dependent on remaining calm and in control in a real medical emergency?
There is now an option to get that experience before you really need it. Thongsbridge bowler John Gant has some experience in this area and will bring along a training defibrillator which provides open access for training purposes and John will walk members through the basics of how to operate the kit.
In addition John can guide members through two other important functions in helping emergency responders to more easily find an emergency location. All this training is free of charge although if clubs are persistent he would encourage a donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
John can be contacted by phone on 07533 373 515 or by email at johngant1@hotmail.co.uk He would ask that contact is only made where there is genuine interest from a good number of club members to attend a one-hour session which would normally be held at that club. I am aware of sessions already held or scheduled at Almondbury BC and Huddersfield RUBC and a couple of photos taken at the Almondbury event are shown below.
