Winter League
Review of the Division 8 matches played on Friday 17 January
A couple of 8-0 results in Friday's Division 8 fixture programme changed the whole complexion of the promotion race. Golcar C&BC continue their obvious stroll to the Division 8 Champions title but the race for the second promotion place is hotting up.
Cowcliffe C had secured that key second place before Christmas but let go after a surprise whitewash defeat to Broad Oak B which lifted the winning side into contention. Holmfirth took full advantage of Cowcliffe's slip up by beating Lockwood Con C 8-0 to move into the second promotion place but still 21 points behind the runaway leaders. A good set of results in Tuesday's fixtures could see Golcar C&BC clinch the title and promotion. A 6-2 Friday victory for the leaders over strugglers Mirfield B put them in prime position for a final push for the Champions title.
Linthwaite Hall B improved their chances of avoiding the drop in their first season in the League with a 6-2 win over another new team in Kirkheaton C&BC B. All teams have four matches left to play and with things very tight for the second promotion place and the two relegation spots the interest and tension continues to mount.
