The Division 8 Qualifying Round for the new Pairs KO scheduled for this Friday has been called off. With only 4 entrants so far it has been decided that this qualifying round will now be played at the same time as the Division 2 Qualifying Round on Friday 31 January. As there are only 6 entrants so far for the Division 2 equivalent there is no reason why the two competitions cannot be run alongside each other.
Therefore the Division 8 Qualifying Round will be run in parallel with the Division 2 Qualifying Round on Friday 31 January. The four pairs that have already entered the Division 8 half of the day are aware of the change and are all available for the new date.
That delay also opens up an opportunity for more entrants to come forward. Division 8 is mainly comprised of new teams to the League so I would like to encourage them to enter the competition.
Let me do a bit of a sales talk to induce more Division 8 bowlers to think again about putting their names forward. You will be playing at Thorpe Green and there are no home bowlers to put you off. You are playing against the bowlers from the teams in the same Division as you play in and most of them you will have seen and maybe played against already. It is another day of bowling in the fresh air with a pea soup beckoning you that is in itself worth the journey.
Two places in the Last 16 are reserved for Division 8 bowlers and thereafter anything can happen as the handicapping system kicks in at that stage which will see those Division 8 qualifiers getting a helpful +4 handicap. It offers a wonderful opportunity to test yourself against more experienced bowlers and learn a few tricks to stand you in good stead for the future. Hopefully there are a few reasons there that will encourage more entries from Divisions 2 and 8 teams to step forward and enter.
Below is a list of the entries so far for both qualifying rounds. You can add your name to this list by completing the online entry form at the foot of this posting. The closing date is 5.00pm on Thursday 30 January so pick your partner and get entered. Entry is still open for bowlers from Divisions 5 and 6 with the closing dates for both listed below.

All matches in the qualifying rounds are 21-Up or 15 ends whichever comes first. All matches are 21-Up after the qualifying rounds. More entries are welcome before the closing.
Four Qualifying Rounds have been completed so far involving 37 pairs of bowlers and this has seen 8 qualifying pairs lined up for the Round of the Last 16. Handicaps come into play from the Round of the Last 16 onwards.
