Funding sources for bowling clubs

***Funding Friday***

We've spent the last couple of weeks reviewing some generic advice on both Governance and Funding - where to start, what to do, etc... Now let's start to have a look at some of the funding sources out there....and what better place to start than Sport England.

Sport England is probably the best known funding source amongst Sports Clubs in the country (as is Sport Wales for Wales). This said, whilst both organisations can offer substantial opportunities, grants from both of these are amongst the more difficult ones to obtain.

The key to applying to Sport England is to make sure of two key things (assuming you've followed the Governance advice we've shared):

1. Make sure you've fully researched, and done a plan for your project idea.

2. Does your plan meet the criteria of the fund that you're applying for?

Let's look at number 2 for a moment. Sport England assess the majority of their funds against the criteria set out within their 'Uniting the Movement' strategy. The strategy is available to download, and read, from the Sport England website - there's the full version, and even a shorter version to make it more straightforward.

It sounds simple, but read it!!!

If you don't, you might waste a lot of time and effort applying for a grant that you simply don't qualify for. This is true for ALL grants, from ALL Funding providers - read the criteria.

As an example of this, 'Uniting the Movement' is all about how we can get more people 'active' in any form of sport or exercise - how we can deliver more sessions, more availability, more participants, more inclusivity, etc.... If you're applying for a grant to replace a shed, is it likely to hit those criteria?

For any project, think outside the box. Could replacing a shed form part of a larger project that could secure funding, for example. What is the overall scope and goal of your project? It's back to the research and planning side of the funding.

Let's have a look at the specific Sport England offerings through the link below. We will come back to specific 'Funds' that are available, with lots more details and advice, in the coming weeks. https://www.sportengland.org/funding-and-campaigns/our-funding
