Geoff Lunn R.I.P.

Rest in Peace

Sad to report that Geoff Lunn the former Bowling Secretary at Waterloo Bowling Club has passed on. Geoff will be well known to many of the Huddersfield bowling community especially for organising and overseeing the huge Bass Althams bowling events at Waterloo.

Geoff's son Steve remembers his father:

Dad was born in Slaithwaite, played cricket for them, then began his bowling career with the Hill Top club. He worked at Joseph Lumbs and played in their works league side. Played briefly at Linthwaite C&BC before moving to Waterloo BC where he played with them from the 1970s.

He was captain of several teams and went on to become bowling secretary where he arranged the massive Bass Althams bowling competitions attracting the best bowlers in the country at the time (photographs below). Sadly due to illness he had to give up bowling at a relatively young age for crown green but took a keen interest in his sons Stephen, Ian and David and grandson Kris who all bowl for Waterloo and also Hazel Lunn a current Yorkshire lady. A keen follower of Yorkshire bowling and hardly ever missed the Blackpool Waterloo week back in the halcyon days of crown green.
