Review of the 6-Man League matches played on Monday 24 June
Some really interesting results in Division 1 this week as the gaps at both ends of the table are compacted. Most importantly at the top end where the leaders, Marsh United A, went down 2-5 away to a strong Lockwood Con team. Coupled with Shepley A's away win at Waterloo which saw the gap between the top five teams reduced from 8 points to just 5 points and all five will fancy their chances of remaining in the title hunt.
With Marsh United A and Waterloo both losing it opened the door for Skel Windmill to move up a place after they had a 6-1 away win at Brockholes A and Netherton Con consolidated their second place after a
5-2 home win over Milnsbridge A.
That win for Lockwood Con lifted them to within 3 points of Crosland Moor who lost 1-6 at Lindley Lib A but the bottom two still have a lot of work to do if they are to climb out of the relegation places. Paddock I&C improved their situation by beating drop zone rivals Thongsbridge A but both teams remain in range of the bottom two.
The top-of-the-table clash at the top of Division 2 saw the leaders extend their lead with a 5-2 away success at Golcar Lib who drop a place to third as a result. That was a 12th successive win for Clayton West who have the only unbeaten record in the League and a growing gap over the chasing pack. That defeat for Golcar Lib saw them slip out of the promotion places as Bradley & Colne took full advantage to go second with a 6-1 away win at Linthwaite Hall. Marsh Lib A and New Mill both retained their interest in the promotion race as both won 5-2 this week. Marsh Lib away at Milnsbridge B and New Mill at home to Holmfirth A who are slowly slipping out of contention.
Well done to Elland C&BC after recording a first win of the season in style with a 5-2 away win at Greenhead Park A. They remain at the foot of the table but are now within reach of the teams immediately above them in the table. Four teams are gathered within 2 points of each other immediately above the Elland team. A first home win of the season would bring renewed optimism to the boys from Elland and hopes for the second half of the season.
Relegation-threatened Almondbury Lib and Hemplow fought out a close encounter where home advantage just paid off for Hemplow with a 4-3 win after a 95-90 aggregate decider.
In Division 3 we have new leaders as Brockholes B take advantage of Denby Dale being pushed all the way by Holmfirth B before staggering over the line with a 91-91 aggregate draw but a 4-3 win for the leaders. That extended their 100% win record to 11 matches but ended their dominance at the top of the table. The Brockholes team won away at Skel Windmill B by 5-2 to take spot away from the long time leaders.
The Thongsbridge derby day started with the club's two teams in 4th and 5th places separated by one one point. It ended with the B team winning 6-1 to move up to third place but still 11 points off the second promotion place. It was another close encounter as the teams filling the bottom two places slogged it out at Shepley where Meltham B were the visitors. The visiting Meltham team took the aggregate 93-91 and the points tally 4-3 to leave their hosts firmly anchored to the foot of the table. Comprehensive 6-1 home wins for Marsh Lib B (v Greenhead Park) and Primrose Hill Lib (v Brockholes C) completed the day's fixture programme.
