Review of the results from Monday 5 August in the 6-Man League
The top of Division 1 crunch match went the way of the home team and still the leaders, Marsh United A, when they defeated their closest rivals Shepley A by 6-1. Couple that with defeat for the next four teams in the table made it a very good day for the leaders who have now extended their lead from 3 points to 8 points and seem well on course to retain the title they won last year.
Waterloo, Skel Windmill A and Netherton Con all lost their away matches to help the leaders cement their dominance. In fact they were the only winners in the top six as 6th placed Milnsbridge A also lost going down 1-6 at home to Golcar C&BC who passed their rivals in the table as do Slaithwaite who won 5-2 at Lindley Lib A.
Good wins for the bottom two teams as Lockwood Con beat Skel Windmill A 5-2 and Paddock I&C who beat Netherton Con who are in freefall having lost 5 of their last 6 matches. That brings Crosland Moor within range of both teams after their 2-5 home defeat to Brockholes A.
Similar story in Division 2 as the leaders, Clayton West, saw off their nearest rivals, Marsh Lib A, by 5-2. However the chasing pack showed some resilience with the next three teams all winning their fixtures with Bradley & Colne reclaiming second place after a 7-0 whitewash win over bottom-of-the-table Elland C&BC. Wins for Holmfirth A and JFT winners New Mill kept both team's promotion hopes very much alive as only 6 points separate the 5 teams behind the leaders vying for that 2nd promotion place.
The 1-6 defeat at New Mill for Milnsbridge B saw them drop two places and into the relegation spots as Hemplow and Linthwaite Hall both clocked up 5-2 wins to ease their relegation worries a little for now.
The top four teams in Division 3 all won their Monday matches to see no change in the pecking order. A 6-1 home win over Holmfirth B enabled the leaders, Brockholes B, to extend their lead to 13 points although they have played one more match than their two nearest rivals. Denby Dale and Thongsbridge B both picked up 5-2 away wins to remain very alive in the leader's wing mirrors.
