Greenhead Park Bowling Club's concern about the future of their bowling greens grows with a news clampdown by Kirklees Council on the subject matter. They know that steps are being taken to reduce the financial impact of green maintenance services and have been told to 'expect the worse' by councillers.
On November 22 Kirklees Council wrote to the Greenhead Park bowling club to advise them that they had decided to introduce a period of public consultation about the future of the two greens and advising them to expect to hear more from them within two weeks about such arrangements. That was 6 weeks ago and since then there has been no contact at all and the club's emails to local councillers have not been answered or even acknowledged.
That frustration has been increased with Yorkshire CCGBA ignoring all contact and pleas for help in fighting their case. Yorkshire CCGBA have experience of aiding Leeds clubs through a similar situation last year and it was hoped that they would bring that experience to the aid of the club. Nothing doing!
The Greenhead Park BC have not been idle in protecting their future by looking at their options for the future of their club. An appeal through these pages brought offers from a number of local clubs to host their teams for the 2025 season. The club members are due to meet on Tuesday 7 January to consider the options further. However the preference of the club is to continue their 97-years-old status of being called and run from Greenhead Park BC.
Kirklees Council have been invited to attend this club meeting but again have ignored the invitation. Appeals for support and guidance made to Sport England and the BCGBA have all been ignored leaving club members feeling very vulnerable with such an uncertain future. It is not a Happy New Year so far for Greenhead Park BC.
