Memories
Below is a really old bowling photograph that Barbara Peacock shared with me that has a number of gaps that she would like to learn more about. The photograph comes from a family collection that features her Grandfather, Fred Coupland, who is featured on the far left of the back row.
Barbara believes that the photograph was taken at the green at Marsden Park and estimates the year could have been from the mid-1920's but that may be well off the mark. On the back of the photo is a list of numbered names which she assumes reveals the names of the bowlers, working left to right starting with the back row.
Back row: 1. Fred Coupland 2. Tom Thornton 3. unknown 4. Wilf Gledhill Middle row: 5. Maurice Horncastle 6. unknown 7. Alf Mason 8. Mark Ward 9. unknown 10. Brodie (Broadbent) 11. unknown
Front row: 12. Wilf Sykes 13. George Wood
Barbara knows that her Grandfather was born in Guiseley around 1880 and travelled many miles on his bycycle looking for work. He eventually found work in Marsden where the family settled and Fred played bowls on the local park.
The photograph prompts a number of questions that Barbara would like to see answered including
The names of the four missing bowlers from the photographs?
Any information about any of the bowlers in the photograph?
What year was this photo taken?
What team is in the photograph and what was the occasion?
So if you know any of these 13 bowlers or answers to any of the questions then please get in touch and help Barbara to fill the gaps in her family history.
It looks more like the 1940’s or 50’s
