Hemplow shock Division 3 leaders

Veterans League

Review of the results in Divisions 3,4&5 of the 10-Man League played on Tuesday 20 August

The gap between the top two teams in Division 3 narrowed after Elland WMC go down 4-5 at an in-form Hemplow A team that has won 5 of their last 7 fixtures. A 125-125 aggregate scoreline contributed to the result. Second-placed Denby Dale were drawing a close to Brockholes A's hopes of promotion with a 7-2 away win to leave the Badgers 19 points adrift. The gap between the top two is now just 4 points as they fight it out for the title in the sure knowledge that they are both odds on to be playing Division 2 fixtures next year.

There is continuing interest in matters at the foot of the table as Thorpe Green launch a bid to escape the drop with a third consecutive win this time by 7-2 away at bottom team Skel Windmill. An important 7-2 home win for Springwood over Paddock I&C improved their chances of staying out of the relegation places but extended Paddock's losing run to 6 matches and reversing their table position so that they are very much in the fight to stay out of trouble. Outlane with one win in their last 8 fixtures are also very much in the relegation mix and a 1-8 defeat at Slaithwaite didn't improve their chances .

There are 6 points between the top four teams in Division 4 but it should be even closer with 4th placed Milnsbridge B surprisingly beaten at home 2-5 by lowly Brockholes B. Along with Brockholes the two teams below them in the table also both won making things interesting with Ravensknowle Park, Huddersfield Rugby Club, Huddersfield Recreation Club and Thongsbridge B all looking over their shoulders as all lost ground this week.

Lockwood Con B beat Ravensknowle Park 7-2 to go second when passing Kirkheaton Cricket Club who lost at Meltham B to reawaken their hopes of moving out of the relegation places.. There was also a fourth successive home win for bottom of the pile Lindley BC B although they remain 24 points short of safety. Marsh United B won their home match 8-1 against the Recreation Club to retain top spot but it is just a one-point gap between them and Lockwood Con B.

In Division 5 the top two both had home wins although the leaders Netherton Con B were pushed all the way by Broad Oak B before clocking up a 5-4 win and David Brown Sports recorded an 8th consecutive home win when beating Kirkheaton Con B 6-3. A 129-127 aggregate advantage saw Dalton over the line 5-4 at bottom of the table Holmfirth B and a notable second successive away win for Almondbury BC B, this time at New Mill B, pushed them closer to Greenhead Park and Kirkheaton C&BC B who both lost this week.
