Winter League
A review of the Divisions 3 & 4 fixtures completed on Monday 8 January
The last match before Christmas saw Rastrick inflict a first Division 3 defeat of the season on Marsh United, the first match of 2024 saw the Rastrick team have the situation reversed when Primrose Hill Lib beat them 6-2 to record their first win of the season. They stay bottom but are now only 3-points behind Paddock I&C who lost 2-6 to Dalton who avenged an early season 3-5 loss to the same opponents.
Lindley Lib B took two points off Marsh United which resulted in them falling further behind the leaders Hanging Heaton who beat third-placed Milnsbridge B 8-0. That left the Milnsbridge side 16-points off the promotion places with an inevitable air of already knowing which two teams are going to be promoted this year.
Lowerhouses B made it six Division 4 wins on the bounce after beating the leaders, New Mill B, 6-2 but they remain in 5th place in the table even though no team has won more matches than them.
New Mill B drop a place to 2nd behind Lindley Lib C who were the only winners in the top three. They whitewashed (8-0) Almondbury BC A who remain in the relegation places along with Springwood B who were beaten 6-2 by Netherton Con A. That win elevated the Netherton team right into the promotion mix despite remaining in 4th place. Despite losing 2-6 to Milnsbridge C, Thorpe Green C stay third but will need to up their game to stay in promotion contention as they have now only won one of their last five fixtures.
