Home advantage pays off for Rugby Club

Winter League

A review of the Division 7 results of fixtures played on Thursday 17 October

Huddersfield RUFC are the early Division 7 leaders after two big wins pushed them upwards and a promising start on a second season of fixtures on their own green. The Rugby Club had opted to invoke the 'no relegation rule' in their favour before the season started. That ensures that as a host club that they cannot be relegated this season as it is important to them that their admin and catering teams continue to be available on Thursday matchdays. However it currently looks like the other half of that rule which covers 'no promotion' may be closer to the end-of-season decision that they will have to make. Lots to happen before then of course but it is always nice to dream and speculate.

Broad Oak A were this week's victim to the home team's impressive start and they now sit two points off the bottom of the table after two matches just ahead of Lockwood Con B. The Lockwood Con B team suffered a second consecutive whitewash 0-8 scoreline when going down to Marsh Lib who were celebrating their first win in the League.

Hanging Heaton B and Meltham B shared the points when they met last week but different fortunes this Thursday. Hanging Heaton B brought the Kirkheaton Con B team back down to earth with a 6-2 victory after the Con's 8-0 win of last week. The Meltham B team also hit reverse gear when going down to Cowcliffe B who were winning by the same 6-2 scoreline for a second week to move into second place.

The gap between the division's top and bottom teams could hardly be any wider but there is lots of bowling still to be played and as the weather changes so do the fortunes of some teams. It is all part of the attraction of winter bowling.
