Memories
The recent discussions, debate and decisions on whether the Huddersfield League should play their matches on a Home & Away basis or remain playing on neutral greens is nothing new. This year has seen the same proposal to change to a Home & Away format put forward and the same decision taken as was taken in 1977. The full report on that 1977 debate was recorded by Peter Muff in his excellent Examiner coverage at that time and reproduced below.
This report on the League's AGM is also covered and reveals some past practices such as bowlers having to toss for the jack in each game, a proposal to bring forward the 3.00pm start time by 30 minutes was defeated and a new award of Greenkeeper of the Year was introduced.
