Dave Parkin has found another gem from All Our Yesterdays with this report on the 2001 Huddersfield Merit Final when Ashley Daykin won the competition for the first time. Ashley went on to win it three more times (2002, 2005 & 2007) surpassing his father's win in 1976.
The item that caught Dave's eye was the mention in the report of the losing bowler in that 2001 Final being Ashley Crowther of Almondbury Lib. In particular the reference to the loser's age as being 21 which would have made him the youngest-ever winner of the Huddersfield Merit. So Dave asked himself if young Ashley Crowther missed out on being the youngest-ever winner who actually is the youngest-ever winner of this title?
