Veterans League
The Huddersfield Veterans Inter-District team will be looking for a big win in the 5th round of fixtures this Friday when they face bottom-of-the-table Wakefield. Anything less will open up the way for their three major rivals to step in and take charge of the race for the 2024 title.
The Away venue is Outwood WMC and the team is as follows: D Pollard, T Poulter, A Cooper, G Senior, M Gilbert (c), R Stopford, D Hewitt, T Butterfield. Reserves: E Haigh, P Hopkinson. Manager: A Sharpe.
The Home venue is Almondbury Bowling Club and the team is as follows: J Bloomer, A Carter, A Cross, R Dickinson, S Haigh, P Kain, G Sigsworth, R Whitwam. Reserves A Bamforth, R Swallow. Non-playing captain F Greenwood, Manager D Armitage.
With Bradford having a bye this week it opens up the opportunity for the three other major contenders for the title to stretch their lead. With only 3 points separating the top four teams who all avoid meeting each other this Friday and the opportunity not to be missed by any team aiming to win the 2024 competition.
Teams are only allowed to play a maximum of four fixtures on the same green and that limit has been reached using the Meltham green. Focus now shifts to Almondbury BC for the home tie this Friday.
On a personal note I am delighted to see that Roland (Ron) Swallow has joined his three fellow Kirkheaton Cons bowlers in action this week. Garry Senior, Tony Butterfield and Adrian 'Crafty' Cooper are all in the away team at Outwood WMC, whilst Roland makes the home team at Almondbury BC.
